Bodegas Tisalaya is a family-run project in Tinajo, Lanzarote, led by Miguel Morales Morín and built on old vines bought by his father, Pablo Morales. It farms two estate plots, Tisalaya and Juan Bello, covering 1.45 hectares at about 250 metres above sea level, between Timanfaya National Park and Los Volcanes Natural Park. The setting dictates the method: an arid, dry, windy climate, volcanic rock under a layer of ash, and traditional planting in individual holes at a 4x4 spacing. Diego is the main variety, around 95%, own-rooted and more than sixty years old. The ash keeps weeds down, so soil work is minimal. In the winery, intervention is restrained: the must spends about 16 hours on the skins, ferments with native yeasts and the wine rests on its lees for at least nine months. Tisalaya is a Diego white with marked acidity and ageing potential. La Vegueta Blanco blends Diego and Malvasía Volcánica; La Vegueta Tinto relies on Listán Negro from vines around 30 years old. A 360º route through the winery lets visitors see how these Tinajo wines are made.
