Where to Buy Wine in Lanzarote
Arrecife holds more wine shops than any other part of the island, several double as a bar for tasting before you leave with the bottle, and nine of them sell online.
Arrecife is the part of the island almost everyone crosses without stopping. Even so, five of the eighteen wine shops, wine bars and stores where Lanzarote wine is bought are right there. The rest spread out between the La Geria road, the southern coast, the Teguise area and one shop in Haría, in the north. In many of them the catalogue does not stop at the island, so if Lanzarote is all you are after, the labels reward a slow read.
In Arrecife
El Vino de Fran, on Calle Carlos V, has been selling wine for more than a decade. On its website it presents itself as an expert who picks labels from a range of wineries, with tastings in the shop itself and home delivery when you ask for it.
Eleven years picking wines from small wineries: that is the trade of Territorio Sibarita, which still opens at its premises on Calle Fajardo. On the page they warn that they are looking for new premises, that they sometimes close for events and that their WhatsApp is there for any question.
Katu, on Calle Ramón Manchón next to the little square, describes itself on Facebook as a tavern for nibbling on Canary wines, and the afternoon runs itself.
Strava, the capital's vermouth bar, has its website mid-overhaul. Somm & Company, on Calle del doctor Rafael González, publishes no hours. What it leaves you is the phone number.
On the wine road
Casa del Vino Canario sits next to the Monumento al Campesino, the César Manrique sculpture that honours the farming tradition. The sommelier Vicenta Mira runs the place and steers whoever walks in through wines from every island in the Canaries. The house settles both purchases in one go: the bottle for dinner and the gift to carry to another house. It closes the whole weekend, so a visit belongs to the weekdays.
Where the road reaches Masdache, Bodegas Barreto lives by phone and by people turning up in person, because it has no website where you can check anything before you arrive. In San Bartolomé, on the street towards Guadarfia, stands Vinos el campesino, which does not say when it opens.
El Grifo's wine bar is inside the winery itself, right on the LZ-30: the house wines by the glass, Canary produce on the menu to go with them, and the estate's own shop to walk out with the case done.
In Uga, Winelanz puts gift boxes together and organizes private tastings. The basket takes more than wine: salt from the Janubio salt flats, oil, artisan preserves and a touch of craftwork.
Between Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca
Chibusque, in the village of Tías, is a wine and delicatessen shop carrying labels from the island and beyond. La Rika, in Puerto del Carmen, deals in signature tapas and in wines from the Canaries and the Spanish mainland, and the table books over WhatsApp.
Playa Blanca has two addresses. Brunchi, in the marina Rubicón, is a family shop of wines, liqueurs and craft beer with a terrace, and it says on its website that it has around a hundred wines, among them all of Lanzarote's main ones. The tastings run without a booking: four glasses of volcanic wine for 14 €, Monday to Saturday, and the place serves in English. El Lagar de Baco, on Calle de las Buganvillas, is a wine shop and restaurant with tapas and music, and it opens all seven days, something this island does not have to spare.
In Teguise, Playa Honda and the north
Vinos y + La Villa sits on Calle Reyes Católicos in the town of Teguise, on hours that catch you off guard: it closes on Saturday and opens on Sunday morning. Bar Fusión Mayor 22 is in Playa Honda, VinosLuci in Tahiche, and in Haría there is Bodega Los Almacenes, the only wine door in the north.
Online
Nine of these addresses also sell online. Five are wine shops: Territorio Sibarita, Casa del Vino Canario, El Grifo's wine bar, Brunchi and Chibusque. The other four are wineries, La Geria, El Grifo, Vega de Yuco and Vulcano, which also sell at the door, so the visit can end with the shopping done. Shipping gets arranged in all sorts of ways: Winelanz delivers by courier within the Canaries, Vulcano reaches the Canaries, Spain and Europe, and El Grifo announces shipping to the whole of Europe. In Arrecife, Territorio Sibarita keeps your order ready for collection within twenty-four hours.

If the wine has to fit in the suitcase, move the shopping to midweek, because on Sunday only six of the eighteen open: El Lagar de Baco, Bodega Los Almacenes, Strava, Bar Fusión Mayor 22, VinosLuci and Vinos y + La Villa. If the bottle is headed for a gift, Casa del Vino Canario keeps gift boxes and presentation packs, and at Winelanz they build the box around whatever you ask for. And if tasting before you leave with the bottle is your way of choosing, there is a bar for it in Arrecife, in Puerto del Carmen and at El Grifo itself.
