Wine route without a car: by taxi between the wineries of Lanzarote
Journeys from wherever you sleep to the wine villages run from 12 € to 51 € on the official per-kilometre tariff, depending on where you set off and which village you head for. The limit that changes everything sits in La Geria: there is no taxi rank, so the car that drops you off is the one that has to come back for you.
The car plan rules the wine route, but the island helps those who travel without one. The distances between the wine villages are short, there are few roads, and the taxi charges by a meter running on a tariff set by regulation, the same for every car. The result is a route you can settle with two phone calls and a price table.
Five villages open the route: Masdache, La Asomada and Uga, in the vineyard country, and Teguise and Tinajo, towards the north. From the airport, Arrecife, Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, each one has its own row with kilometres, minutes and price, and to book the car there is a phone number for each zone, spread across the island.
How the fare is charged
Taxis on Lanzarote are a municipal matter, and from that come the two tariffs that govern the fare. The urban one is set by each town council and holds only inside its own boundaries. The interurban one is set by the Government of the Canary Islands and applies the moment the trip crosses from one municipality into another. Since the wineries rarely sit in the village you are staying in, the wine route is paid for almost entirely on the interurban tariff.
The interurban tariff was fixed by an order of the Government of the Canary Islands published in March 2023. By day and on weekdays, the kilometre costs 1,35 €, with a minimum of 3,85 € that already covers the first 1,500 metres. At night, on Sundays and on public holidays, it rises to 1,55 € with a minimum of 4,25 €. Waiting time is charged at 18,50 € an hour. Booking the car through the radio-taxi service adds 0,60 €, and if the start or the destination is the airport or the port, the supplement is 2,10 €. At Christmas the minimum goes up to 6,54 €, though it applies on three nights only: 24 and 31 December and 5 January, from 22:00 to 00:00.
Arrecife has one of its own: the town council's urban tariff, published in May 2025, with a daytime flag fall of 3,05 € that already includes the first kilometre, and 0,80 € for each one after it. There is also a 1,20 € supplement for entering or leaving the Muelle de los Mármoles. It is the city's tariff, not the route's, and it is enough to know that it exists.
What it costs from where you are
The meter charges for the distance the car covers, and the route the driver takes can move the amount. At night, on Sundays and on public holidays, the same journey costs a little more. Rows that start or end at the airport carry their supplement on top, and the table does not include it.
The cheapest trip on the list is also the shortest: Puerto del Carmen to La Asomada, 9,2 kilometres, eleven minutes and 12,42 €. At the other end, the trip from Playa Blanca to Teguise: 37,8 kilometres, 45 minutes and 51,03 €, the highest figure on the table. Twenty-three more combinations sit in between.

How to book the car and where to pick it up
At the airport everything is sorted: the official ranks are on level 0 of arrivals in both terminals, and the advice is to take the taxi there and ask for a receipt. Outside the airport there is no published list of ranks, so the car is hailed in the street or called by phone. To book it, every zone of the island has its number, and the airport adds a booking line of its own:
| Area | Phone |
|---|---|
| Lanzarote Airport, bookings | 630 207 305 |
| Arrecife and Puerto de los Mármoles | 928 800 806 |
| San Bartolomé, Playa Honda and Güime | 928 520 176 |
| Costa Teguise, Famara and Nazaret | 928 524 223 |
| Matagorda, Puerto del Carmen and Tías | 928 524 220 |
| Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero and Yaiza | 928 524 222 |
| La Santa, Tinajo and La Vegueta | 928 524 222 |
| Órzola, Charco del Palo and Haría | 928 524 220 / 620 315 350 |
The case of La Geria
La Geria is the taxi's special case: there is no taxi rank. The wineries of La Geria sit among ash pits on either side of the road, and there is no village where the car can wait for customers. The driver who drops you off is the one who picks you up, so the day is organised around the return booked with the same car: the driver charges the trip out and the trip back if you ask him to wait, and even then it usually works out cheaper than two different cars.
What does not exist is a quoted price for an afternoon with stops and waiting: it depends on what you agree with the driver. What is fixed are the components, the kilometre and the hour of waiting, and the trips in the wine zone are short, so you negotiate the return journey with the upper hand.
When it pays off
If the plan is a relaxed wine tasting, the day fits into two trips: out in the morning and the return already booked. If the day takes in two or three wineries, the chat with the driver decides the price, and it is settled when you get in, not when you get out. And if your hotel is in Playa Blanca, the distance takes its share: those are the longest journeys on the list.
