Wineries you can visit in Lanzarote
Of the 59 wine businesses on the island, only 28 confirm that a visit is possible. Here they are, area by area, alongside the 31 that say nothing.
Lanzarote counts 59 wine businesses between wineries and wine shops, and only 28 have confirmed that you can visit: their website advertises visits, tastings or wine tourism, or you can book an experience with a date and a price. That is more than the brochures mention, but not all of them let anyone in. The other 31 make no mention of visits on their website or have no website at all, and with them no promise is worth anything without a phone call first. None of them has said that it does not receive visitors, so none is declared closed to the public.
Of the 28, most are wineries, eight are wine shops spread across several of the island's towns, and two are companies that organise the visit for you. They run area by area, with what you do at each one and what is worth knowing before you leave the hotel.
La Geria, where wine grows beneath the ash
If you have only one excursion to spare for wine, it will end up in La Geria. It is the band of land where every vine lives sunk into a pit of ash, behind a curved stone shelter that keeps the wind off it, and the landscape explains along the way why the wine here tastes the way it does. A good part of the businesses that confirm visits line up along that same road.
Bodegas Rubicón is the easiest stop to start with. It lets everyone in for free, every day from 10:00 to 19:00, to walk the grounds and pick up a bottle from the shop. The guided visit lasts 45 minutes, costs 22 € and leaves at 13:30, with 5 € admission for minors aged 11 to 17. The house asks you to book ahead and to bring a hat and sun protection, especially in summer.
A stone's throw away, Bodega La Geria opens every day from 10:00 to 20:00, Sundays from 11:00, and runs guided visits and tastings in several formats. It is the business with the most Google reviews, more than four thousand, and none of the others reaches three thousand. Bodega Stratvs, a few minutes away, opens 10:00 to 19:00 all seven days of the week, with guided visits of about an hour. On Saturdays, from 13:00 to 15:30, the Maridaje Sonoro joins in, a session with different music every week of October.
The rest of the area shares out the week in very different ways. Finca Testeina schedules its visit at sunset, with a tasting and artisan chocolate, on Wednesdays in English and Thursdays in Spanish, at 26 € for adults and 15 € for minors aged 5 to 17. Bodegas Martinón opens on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, from 9:00 to 14:30, and Bodega Roca Negra concentrates its week on Saturday from 8:00 to 14:00. Lanzarote Natural receives from Monday to Thursday at midday, and its tasting comes with enyesque, the Canary tapas, and prickly pear juice, the fruit of the cactus. The visit departures run at 10:00 and 12:00, and the exact time is confirmed by WhatsApp. Bodegas Vega de Yuco, in Masdache, opens Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 15:00, with tasting, visit and shop.
Bodega Cohombrillo, in Tinajo, advertises tasting, visit and wine tourism and publishes no opening hours, so you will need to call before setting out. Bodeguita Vega Volcán, in La Asomada, does tastings and sales without spelling out its hours, and Bodega Las Cadenas, in La Vegueta, opens Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 18:30 and shares its day-to-day on Instagram. The wine shop Winelanz, in Uga, closes the route with morning tastings, Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 14:00 and Saturdays until 16:00.
El Grifo, David Fernández and the wineries of the island's interior
Bodegas EL GRIFO has been making wine since 1775 and its website presents it as one of the ten oldest wineries in Spain. It stands on the La Geria road where it passes through San Bartolomé, and it closes at weekends, so the free day almost everyone has will not get you in. On weekdays it runs four plans: the 45-minute audio guide that ends with two glasses, at 15 € with free admission up to age 17, the tasting of five wines, adults only, at 30 €, the two-hour visit with a tasting of six wines at 50 €, and the plan that ends at the table, with the restaurant's menu, at 95 €. In the village of San Bartolomé, the Wine Bar EL GRIFO also opens on weekdays, from 10:30 to 18:30, and repeats the same experiences.
At the other end of the island, in Guatiza, Bodega David Fernández welcomes you in a winery dug out of the volcanic rock itself, and as you walk the vineyard it tells you, as the house presents it, how vines are grown in an apparently impossible landscape. The tasting of five wines with commentary costs 25 €, and the full visit, with a walk through the vineyard, the way down into the winery and a final tasting, 35 €. Groups never go above ten people, and its week runs Monday to Friday, in the morning.
In Montaña Blanca, Bodega Ignacio Romero runs regular visits every day, with a tasting of organic wines and an explanation of the landscape and the work in the vineyard, and it serves in English, French and German. Bodegas La Florida, in El Islote, offers outings for special groups across its vineyards, a volcanic jameo and natural gardens, with a tasting and a platter of Canary cheeses. Bookings go by email only, to info@bodegaslaflorida.com, and the house opens Monday to Friday, from 11:00 to 14:00. And Bodega La Verea, in Tinguatón, announces tastings on its website, without publishing hours or a phone number.
A tasting without leaving town
Not every visit involves a vineyard. If you are staying in a hotel area or travelling without a car, the island's wine shops do the job of the neighbourhood winery. In Arrecife, El Vino De Fran opens twice a day, morning and afternoon, with tasting and a visit. Katu lives for the evening, with tapas dinners, and only opens at midday on Thursdays and Saturdays, and Territorio Sibarita works the mornings from Monday to Saturday, with tastings and home delivery.
In Puerto del Carmen there are two wineries and one wine shop open in the evening. Bodega Vulcano de Lanzarote can be visited Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00, and Bodegas Timanfaya announces tastings and events without saying when. La Rika pours drinks and tapas from 19:00 to 23:00, Monday to Saturday, just the hours the after-beach plan calls for. At the Marina Rubicón in Playa Blanca, Brunchi mixes a wine shop, drinks and cooking, mornings and nights, and serves you in English. And on the road from Arrecife to Tinajo, next to the Museo del Campesino, the Casa del Vino Canario schedules tastings with a date and a price, from one on Canary ciders to another on the stories a wine tells.
If you would rather be driven
Two of the 28 businesses build the wine day for you. Lavatrekking, based in Costa Teguise, organises walking routes through the volcanic landscape, and its volcano route ends with Canarian nibbles and local wine as the sun goes down. Wine Tours Lanzarote, from Puerto del Carmen, does exactly what its name announces: wine tours with a tasting. If you are not hiring a car, the two are the shortcut between your hotel and the vineyard.

The ones that do not confirm
That leaves 31 businesses without confirmation, either way. They have not said they refuse visits: they say nothing on their website or have no website at all. Some may open if you call, but without confirmation there is no schedule to promise and no booking to make, and that question is not answered by the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin either.
Before you go
The hours here bear no resemblance to a shopping centre's. Some houses open two days a week, others on scattered mornings, and some publish nothing at all about when they open, so the first thing to check is the house's calendar. Where a booking is needed, the way goes through the business's website, and the visits that publish a capacity run at ten to twelve people.
If you come with a car and a free weekday, the La Geria road chains together four or five visits, from Bodegas EL GRIFO down to Bodega La Geria. If your wine day falls on a Sunday, the short list is Rubicón, Stratvs and La Geria, the three that open that day among those that publish hours. And if you travel without a car, the nearest tasting beats the perfect winery on the far side of the island.
